Welcome to the first edition of Inside Indonesia in its new online format.

About one year ago, we at Inside Indonesia decided to close the print magazine we’ve been publishing for over twenty years. We did this for a lot of reasons. Some were financial and administrative, but we also realised that more and more of our readers were accessing the magazine online, and that this format provided many new possibilities for us.

On the site, you’ll find most elements you are familiar with from the print magazine. On the central column of the home page, you’ll always find a collection of feature articles on a single issue: we’ve chosen to launch our first online edition with a survey of Aceh’s peace process. The feature articles will be updated once every three months, marking the appearance of a new edition. In the right hand column are the weekly stories. Here, you’ll find at least one new story being added every week. These might be about almost any political, social, or environmental topic to do with contemporary Indonesia.

On our website, you can subscribe for free to the magazine. Go to our subscription page to be added to our subscriber list. We strongly encourage you to do this. Subscribing means that you’ll receive a regular email (maximum of one per week) to notify you of any new articles which appear on the site.

The site also contains information about the magazine and how to contribute to it. We’ve reorganised how we run and edit the magazine, including by bringing together a new team of volunteer editors, and you can find out who they are by following the "about us" link. You can also provide us your feedback by clicking the link in the left column, and we’d encourage you to let us know what you think of our new format.

Some of our past features – such as an educational supplement in Indonesian – are not yet included on the site, but we hope to add these in due course. We also haven’t yet managed to transfer all our past editions into the new format, and we’ll be doing this in coming months. Before long, we hope that the full text of all of our past editions, going right back to 1983, will be on the site.

In launching our new online magazine, Inside Indonesia would like to thank our web designer, Tess Bullen. We'd also like to extend special thanks to Thushara Dibley, who has worked tirelessly on the difficult task of coordinating our transition to a new online-only format. Finally, we'd like to thank all our loyal readers who have been waiting for our new site to appear. We hope that you enjoy it!   ii
